Meet Golden Guide Dog-in-Training Daisy
Say hello to pretty Golden Daisy, pictured here at only four
and one-half months of age. She is the gem that the Schlegel family (Mom Mary, and
daughters Jennifer & Samantha) raised for the Lions Leader Dog program. Daisy worked
with the family until she was one-year-old. Recently (July 1999) she returned to Rochester
Hills, Michigan for her formal training as a guide dog for the blind.
Mary says that the Lions Leader Dog Program is not only very worthwhile, but lots of fun
as well. The entire family was certainly very proud to be a part of it. But, of course,
they are now missing their bright smiling Daisy. As we all know, Goldens are so special!
And, we hear that Daisy is progressing very well. She is working out with her trainer
daily and has scored very high marks. If all goes well, Daisy will be paired with her
blind person in about six weeks.
The whole family is so happy that this has worked out. Daisy is truly a wonderful girl.
And even though she is missed greatly, they all agree that it was "a small sacrifice
to make to help another person."
