Golden Sisters Summer and Topsy . . . Together Again

Deb Orwig sent us this post about Sisters Summer & Topsy on January 28, 2001.

I raised Summer and Topsy from birth. My wonderful boy Moose was their daddy. There were seven girls in the litter of twelve. In order to keep them straight, we clipped a little square of hair off from various locations on their bodies. TopsTopsy's gorgeous Golden smile is surely lighting up heaven...y was clipped on the top of her head. We lived on Shady Lane in Monroe, Connecticut, at the time. And, since she was a bundle of energy, we named her Shady Lane Whirlwind Topsy.

Summer and Topsy were like two peas in a pod. Although Summer was always bigger, their mannerisms and habits were virtually identical — they even squatted at the same time! They were loving, sweet Golden girls. They were always a huge hit wherever we went, whether it was to a parade, to an elementary school for a "dog show", to library story hours, or to sick children.

They were only three months old when they had their first "pet therapy" experience. A friend of mine had a daughter who was terrified of dogs due to a bad experience with a neighbor's dog. She asked if she could hire me and my puppies to help her daughter overcome this fear. Of course, we did it for nothing. The girl came over several times to see the pups and after a few weeks had a healthy respect for but no longer a fear of dogs.

Summer and Topsy lived to the ripe old age of 14 years and 5 months, a long and happy lifetime. We will miss them, but we know they are happy together again at the Bridge.
