Entry #4: Gracie Unleashed
— "This photo was taken at our local
beach called Caswell Bay on the Gower Peninsular, South
Wales. It's Gracie and the rest’s favourite beach because
there's a river running right through it, which goes
straight into the sea. As soon as they get onto the beach,
they run down the river ending up in the waves, where there
are, more often than not, at least a dozen or so surfers.
And, this is where Gracie is running towards—the surfers!
She ends up swimming alongside the surfers, I think, trying
to see who gets the wettest!” —

Entry #21:
Let the Carnage Begin! —
"Kasey is a rescue dog that was confiscated by Animal
Control for abuse. She was chained for two years without
shelter and very little food and water. When we adopted her
she had never seen a toy never the less played with one. To
this day shredding them into little pieces is her favorite
thing to do." —

Entry #23:
Winnie teaches her Puppies a
Golden's Love of Water —
"Winnie is a rescue golden from the
Golden Retriever Rescue
of North Texas. She came in at the tender
age of two with a litter (her second) of eleven 4-day-old
puppies. After fostering her and her puppies for eight weeks
and then adopting each of the babies out, we couldn’t give
her up, and adopted her. These little guys sure did love
playing on the pool cover once they realized they could make
a big puddle of water form. Funny thing was it took about
three puppies at one time in order to make the cover touch
the water so they would all pile up on it. Of course, I
would then have 11 little wet and muddy puppies." —

Entry #26:
Eye On the Ball (2-year-old Toby pictured
above) —
"Toby is a one eyed ball fanatic. He is blind in one eye due
to a congenital cataract; however, this 'handicap' doesn't
get in the way of Toby's pursuit of the tennis ball. He is a
phenomenal ball chaser and we marvel at his athletic grace
and skill. These pictures show his determination and his joy
at retrieving tennis balls. The soccer field we use is
behind a Dallas police substation and next to a Army Reserve
Center. Many times we will see reservists and police
officers stopping to watch Toby in action." —

Entry #27:
Dirty Mouth (2-year-old Toby pictured above) —
"This picture was taken of our ball fiend Toby at the 2005 Golden Retriever Rescue
of North Texas fundraising picnic. We were in the midst of a drought and
the lake levels were down dramatically. All the dogs were
dirty and Toby was no exception. When he gives you the look
shown in this picture you cannot resist and throw him yet
another ball. Toby, by the way, is blind in his left eye due
to a congenital cataract; however, it has never slowed him
from his athletic pursuits." —

Entry #28:
Get In the Game!
(2-year-old Toby pictured above) —
"Toby Visser is a rescued Golden Retriever adopted from Golden Retriever Rescue
of North Texas. He is blind in his left eye due to a congenital
cataract; however, he has never let this disability get in
his way of enjoying his life, particularly enjoying playing
with balls. We took Toby to a touch football game between
alumni of WestPoint, the Naval Academy and the Air Force
Academy. During a break, Toby decided to play a game of his
own, despite the challenges of the size of the football.

Tennis Ball Heaven with Toby & Barkley
(6-year-old Barkley and 11-month-old Toby pictured above) —
"This photo was taken at a Golden Retriever Rescue
of North Texas picnic in 2004, the same year we adopted both dogs. Toby
is a tennis ball fanatic and was ecstatic when he discovered
a mound of tennis balls at the picnic. Barkley (now 10) was
just happy to be out unleashed at a huge celebration and was
rolling around making happy Golden noises when we snapped
this photo. This picture is priceless to us." —

Entry #31:
Doggle Doggie (2-year-old Toby pictured
above) —
"Toby is blind in one eye due to a congenital cataract. We
bought him some Doggles for when his eyes are dilated after
visits to the ophthalmologist, never thinking he'd actually
want to wear the Doggles. We were wrong—he
loves them! We decided to put him on a scooter in a James
Dean like pose. You can see his spirit and I believe he was
determined to drive it too!" —

Entry #40:
Brotherly Bonding (8-year-old Barkley & 1-year-old Toby pictured

"This picture was taken on our way
home from a Volunteer Picnic for Golden Retriever Rescue
of North Texas. Barkley and Toby had a fabulous day
running, rolling, chasing balls, visiting other dogs
and people and wading in a creek. They were
exhausted and I took this picture of them on the way
home, in the back seat, without even trying to frame
the shot. I got very lucky as I got them sleeping on
top of one another." —
