Dog
Massage: A Whiskers to Tail Guide (2001)
This book was written by MaryJean Ballner. A
thorough guide to this wonderful experience for dogs and owners to share. Massage is an
easy - and fundamental - way to communicate with your dog from its puppy years forward.
Imagine facing a frightened pup from an animal shelter. Simply reaching your hands out and
knowing how to touch it is the key to the beginning of a successful relationship. Many
people already massage their dogs in an abbreviated way, patting their shoulders and back
while praising them. But understanding the canine anatomy and massage particulars will
allow you to get the most out of the experience. Sections include: 1 - Anatomy and
physiology made simple 2 - Tools and techniques of the trade (also vocabulary) 3 -
Friendly and unfriendly canine feedback 4 - Special considerations, including massage for
older dogs, pregnant dogs, and massage as physical therapy.
Energy
Work with Dogs - Accessing the Magnificent Body Language & Body Wisdom of the Dog
(2003)
By Jonathan Rudinger. An advanced course
incorporating the use of energy in animal massage work. It teaches the reader to use and
enhance the effects of touch, positional release, acupressure, chakra work and
communication fundamentals in their practice. It will add dimension to any basic animal
massage. It is based on the concepts of energy and the movement of "life force"
through the body. Each dog mixes his or her energies with the practitioner's energies and
attitudes to create specific and non-reproducible dynamics. Techniques taught in this book
support and enhance the flow of energy in canine sports massage, medical massage, massage
for rehabilitation, relaxation and in dog training and socialization.

Canine
Orthopedics
This book was written by Connie Jankowski,
Suzanna Lee & Robert Rooks and published by the Howell Book House in April 1997. This
book identifies those diseases and problems that affect the skeletal structure of dogs.
Whether your dog is the family pet, a canine athlete, or a working dog, orthopedics
affects every aspect of that dog's life. For instance, it affects his or her ability to
stand, lie down, sit, or move comfortably and efficiently. Damaged bones and soft tissue
injuries can cause wear and tear on joints. And, this can lead to lameness, discomfort,
pain, and irritability. This book tells you how to evaluate problems and gives you
preventative measures, including that of nutrition. You will also find out about the
latest treatment programs from veterinary schools!
The
Healing Touch for Dogs (2004)

psychologist Dr. Michael W. Fox shares his pioneering 6-step massage technique through
detailed illustrations, photos, and easy-to-read instructions, and provides information on
how to understand your animal companion's anatomy, develop a massage routine, use massage
to diagnose illness, and integrate it as part of overall care for your dog. Teaches you
basic dog psychology, how massage can help your dog, how to create the best massage
routine, how to diagnose illnesses, and even how to keep your dog in shape.
Stretching
the Performance Dog DVD (2005)
Written by
Debbie Gross Saunders. Dogs doing agility and other performance
sports need to be treated as athletes. Stretching prepares the body
for movement and helps make the transition from static inactivity to
dynamic activity without strain. Stretching before and after a
training session or a competition run will help with flexibility,
thereby improving performance and aiding in the prevention of common
injuries. If the flexibility and strength that the dog requires to
perform his sport is not present, injuries will occur. These
injuries may not happen spontaneously, but rather develop over time.
This process is why there are so many soft tissue problems in
performance dogs. These problems can, however, be prevented or
reduced with proper stretching, warm-up, and cool-down.
