Meet Golden Media Star Trumpy
In August 2007, we learned that a new 225-room Westin opened
in Annapolis, MD. We were immediately on alert when the following
was noted: "The Westin
Annapolis is a dog-friendly hotel, with its own official Golden
Retriever, Trumpy, who sits with the concierge, ready to offer a
warm greeting to guests, and Heavenly Dog Beds that are available
for dogs traveling with their owners."
Since Maryland is our home town, we set out to learn about Golden
Trumpy, as well as this special dog-friendly establishment. It
turned out that Trumpy was merely on loan, since we all know how
Goldens so blanket print advertising. And, Trumpy's story is
detailed below. For those folks, though, who are looking for a
wonderful vacation in which they can take their beloved dog along,
well it was pretty impressing to read about the Heavenly Dog program
that is offered by Westin, at no additional cost. They actually
provide the following for their furry guests:
Above is a copy of the special invitation to a party at
the Westin to kick off it's grand opening in August 2007.
Trumpy should only know how unique she was to have a
cocktail event. It must be the reason for the bow tie. We
were confused by the tie and initially believed Trumpy to be
a boy, but her mom, Lynne Forsman, cleared that up for us.
It is similar to the fact that all of the Collies that
played the famous female "Lassie" were boys.
Here is an October 2007 note from Lynne about Trumpy and her new-found
fame.
I have owned a group yacht charter company here in Annapolis since
1994. I work very closely with the area hotels and their groups – my
connection with Sharon and the Westin.
Trumpy (named after the esteemed naval architect John Trumpy of the
Trumpy Yachts – USS Sequoia, etc) is quite well known around town –
she’s my “daughter” and spoiled rotten.
A very sweet, lovable
“lemon” at 8 almost 9 with Elbow (left) dysplasia, TPLO (both back
legs), and having had Lyme’s two times. Yet, she’s as energetic and in her best shape. She comes to work with my practically everyday.
When I learned that the Westin wanted to rescue a Goldie, I told
Sharon McKennon (Westin Annapolis' Director of Sales & Marketing) that if she needed a “stand-in” until they find the right
one, that Trumpy would be up for it!! She worked the day like a pro–a very proud mom here.
From greeting guests at the door off lead,
to her big blonde butt slipping off the Westin Heavenly
Dog Bed, yet managing to stay for over 40 minutes striking all sorts
of poses, she was so funny.
Aside from this I managed to also get her into Boating magazine–as
a dog of the month, our local veterinarian's (Family Vet in Crofton)
newsletter,
and of course, on my yacht charter company’s (Nautical Destinations)
website.
She has the calmest disposition and eye/eye brow expressions to keep
you in stitches.
A true character.
We LOVE the attention!

It's a Hard Life for Trumpy . . . as you can see!
