Meet Golden Guide Dog-in-Training Cody

Here is Cody. He just went back to the Southwest Guide Dog Foundation to get his formal training. He had been living in Bryan, Texas with Susan South, his Puppy Walker. During the 1995-96 school year, Cody got to go to work with Susan at UPS four days a week. He went to the store, malls, on vacations (including the Alamo) & restaurants. This was to help him to become socialized to the outside world, and things like traffic, elevators, airplanes, and just everyday life situations. And one day a week, Cody went to the Sam Rayburn Middle School with Becky Alter. He was of course very popular with the students, as all Goldens usually are!

On May 21, 1996, Susan and Cody, who had been selected as Community Heroes, participated in the Olympic Torch Run. Due to this honor, they got to carry the Olympic torch when it passed through Texas. Cody is the only dog worldwide that ran in the event. And, only two dogs in the world have ever been honored in this way!
