Before You Get Your Puppy (2001)

By Ian Dunbar in 2001. Lists common, predictable puppy problems, provides a timetable for their development, and suggests a variety of dog-friendly preventative measures and solutions. It emphasizes the importance of early socialization, confinement, prevention, reward training, and lure/reward training techniques. Discusses the 6 doggy developmental deadlines that you must meet with your puppy in order to have a well-adjusted family member, with emphasis on the first three deadlines. House training and biting/mouthing are two of the most important things covered.

After You Get Your Puppy

This book was written by Ian Dunbar in 2001. Now you have your puppy, the clock is ticking and you need to meet three more developmental deadlines before your puppy is five months old. Covers Household Etiquette; Home Alone; Socialization with People; Learning Bite Inhibition; The World at Large; Homework Schedules, and a shopping list of books and videos.  

Puppy Kindergarten Video

This 2002 video was developed by Corally Burmaster. *Won the Dog Writer's Association of America's Maxwell Award, Best Video of 2003! Think your new puppy is too young to train? Think again! Puppy Kindergarten is your guide to successfully training your puppy (older dogs, too!) regardless of age. Clicker training is such a gentle method of training you don't need to wait for the puppy to grow up to start training. Your puppy will want to be trained! Bring out that clicker and watch him beg you to play the training game. Everyone in the family can participate. Gives clear, step-by-step instructions on how to get the puppy to do the behavior you want, put a behavior on cue so you can ask for it any time, any place, and teach your puppy to ignore distractions.  

Positive Puppy Training Works    
This book was written by Joel Ealton in 2002. Ian Dunbar says it all when he says "If you have a puppy, or are thinking about getting a puppy, buying this book is the smartest thing you can do. It's brilliant! Excellent!! Awesome!!! The book details how to manage, relate to, and educate your puppy. Emphasizes puppy needs and feelings, and how to show and teach them to be good companions, using gentle, puppy-friendly methods. Includes Joel's management, relationship and education system (MRE); his Simply Observe and Reward (SOAR); Simply Teach and Reward (STAR), which teaches basic commands; crate training; housetraining; dealing with play biting; teaching what to chew; solving normal puppy problems; socializing/greeting people and other dogs, more. VERY gentle, positive training methods.  

Sounds Good CD - Puppy Habituation
This CD was developed in 2004 by Terry Ryan. Puppies are impressionable. As in human child development, early experiences can influence a puppy's current and future outlook on life. Windows of learning opportunities are opening and closing at a rapid rate. Take advantage of these critical periods by providing an enriched but non-frightening learning environment. This CD will help your puppy get used to a variety of everyday sounds. Please take the time to listen to all instructions before you start to work with your puppy.  

There's A Puppy In The House
This book was written by Mike Wombacher in 2004. A comprehensive guide to raising your puppy through the first five months of his life. Includes an in-depth look at housetraining, including common difficulties; a unique day-by-day, week-by-week, timeline explaining exactly how and when to implement everything in the book; over 150 photos and 40 illustrations to clearly demonstrate how to perform every exercise; heavily cross-referenced for ease of use; includes dozens of resources to other areas of puppy raising and dog training.  

How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With, 4th Edition
This book was written by Clarice Rutherford & David Neil in 2005. Covers planning for the new puppy, selecting a breeder, house training, where to sleep at night, bonding with your new puppy, socialization, discipline, simple commands and leash training. Learn the stages of development and what to expect as the puppy grows. Breeders, this is a good book to give to your buyers when you collect that deposit on the new puppy! Help them plan ahead and be prepared.
 
Another Piece of the Puzzle: Puppy Development  
This book is edited by Pat Hastings and Erin Ann Rouse. They have a wide variety of experienced dog people here who will walk you through the mental and emotional development of puppies as well as the varieties of nurturing that their breeders and also their human families can provide. Chapters include Behavioral Development of Puppies; Puppies and Their Breeders; The Clicker Litter; Raising a Single-Puppy Litter; Puppy Nutrition; Vet Care; Orthopedic Problems; and more. 2004 Paperback, 109 pages

This book was written by Teoti Anderson in 2003. A fabulous new puppy behavior problem book from leading trainer Teoti Anderson. Find out about all the cutting edge positive training methods you can use to get your puppy under control. Learn how to deal with and stop unwanted chewing, barking and jumping up and all the other issues one can face with a new puppy. Breeders and trainers - consider recommending this to new puppy owners - you will save them a lot of heartache! Teoti Anderson is President of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

How to Teach A New Dog Old Tricks: A Sirius Puppy Training Manual   

This book was written by veterinarian and animal behaviorist, Ian Dunbar, and published by James & Kenneth Publishers in 1996. It features fun training with toys, treats, lures and rewards. There are easy and effective, dog-friendly techniques for teaching a new puppy old tricks (such as basic manners), or for teaching an older dog that is new to training. Dr. Ian Dunbar is Director of the Center for Applied Animal Behavior, Founder of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and host of the popular British TV series Dogs With Dunbar. He is also the author of many books and videos including Doctor Dunbar's Good Little Dog Book, a set of Behavior Booklets on the most common canine behavior problems, Sirius Puppy Training (video), and Dog Training For Children (video).

This video was developed by Karen Pryor in 1999. The gentle, puppy-friendly way to raise a great family dog! Super Simple Guide to Housetraining
This book was written in 2004 by Teoti Anderson. Learn some easy ways to properly housetrain your dog and what to do if you run into a problem. Easy-to-read format with tip boxes and full-color photos will help you along the way. It covers: crate training; outdoor training; preventing accidents; healthy habits; and solutions to common housetraining problems.  

Crate Training Your Dog
This book was written in 2000 by Pat Storer. Crate training works because dogs, like their wild ancestors, desire a snug "den" that affords security and privacy. When dogs are crate trained properly, they accept and even enjoy their sequestered time. Booklet show you how to maintain a positive, loving attitude while being firm and consistent with your dog. This book was written in 2003 by Karen London & Patricia McConnell. This clear, concise booklet can help your puppy or adult dog learn a lifetime of good habits. In addition to a step-by-step plan to get your dog to eliminate outside and outside only, Way to Go! is loaded with practical information about how long you can expect housetraining to take, tips for knowing when your puppy needs to go outside, how to handle night time, how to clean up accidents, and how to teach your dog to eliminate on cue.    

Puppy Intensive Care: A Breeder's Guide to Care of Newborn Puppies (2006)
